On any mouse there is a left click area and a right-click area (and on a laptop the touch pad and right and left buttons can be used in the same way).
A single left-click always actions something, it is a way of selecting or opening things and it makes things happen. Sometimes you might need to do a double left-click (a bit like doing ‘dot-dot’ in morse code) to open folders or files.
The right-click will only ever give you options and choices.
Try doing a right-click on a file or picture or folder. See what options it gives you. These are often very useful short cuts.
Just using a single right-click is safe as it won’t do anything!
To then make any selection of the choices (*to do an action) you’ll need to use the left-click.
The most useful right-click options are:
· New (and then) Folder: This is extremely useful.
You can create a new folder anywhere at any time by doing a right-click in the space where you want the new folder.
This will give you an option of NEW
Then put the cursor over the word NEW and another window will open with options and you left-click on FOLDER.
Then immediately type a name for the folder.
Click the RETURN key once you’ve done this.
· Cut: Select with a left-click will ‘cut’ this from its current place
· Copy: Select with a left-click will ‘copy’ this from its current place
· Paste: This is used after Cut or Copy and you use Paste in the location that you want to cut or copy something to.
· Rename: This will allow you to rename any file or photo. After selecting with a left-click, you then immediately start typing a new name. Check that if it’s a file or photo it has the correct file type after the name (ie if it’s a photo it would need to have .jpg after the name or if it’s a document, it would have .doc after the name.) Look at files and see what names and file types they have.
· Delete: A dangerous option but useful. A left-click on this will make your computer ask if you really want to delete the file. Choose Yes or No
